The drug-dealing simulation game Schedule 1 has just released its new beta update, v0.4.0, which is centered around the highly anticipated “Cartel Update.” This update is designed to expand the mid-to-late-game content by introducing a new rival faction, new properties, and a variety of new mechanics to challenge players as they grow their criminal empires.

New Rivals and Expanded Gameplay

The most significant addition in the v0.4.0 beta is the introduction of a new rival cartel, the Benzies family. This new faction adds a layer of danger and competition to the open world. Players will now have to deal with the consequences of a rival family, including ambushes, dealer robberies, and dead drop thefts. Establishing a truce with the Benzies family is an option, but it comes with its own set of risks and rewards.

The update also brings new content for players to earn:

  • New Property: A new high-end property, Hyland Manor, has been added to the game. It can only be purchased after a player completes the new storyline with the Benzies family.
  • New Items: Players now have access to a new vehicle called the Hotbox and a new weapon, the pump shotgun, along with its ammunition.

Updated Progression and Quality of Life Improvements

The developer, TVGS, has also made a major change to how players progress through the game’s regions. Each region now has a “cartel influence” level, which must be reduced to a certain threshold before a player can expand into the next area. This adds a new strategic element to the game, as players can’t just expand at will and must now manage their influence over a region.

The v0.4.0 update also includes a number of quality-of-life improvements, such as the ability to pickpocket police and NPCs, a change to how deals are canceled, and updated physics for vehicle braking.

The developer apologized for the delay in releasing the update, which was voted on by the community back in June. Players can access the beta by opting into the beta branch through the game’s settings on Steam.
